*BEST* pizza in Norfolk~ It's always a special treat to come here and relax on the patio enjoy the beer and yummy pizza. For all who have complained about the wait and busy staff that's normal for a restaraunt that is usually pretty busy! We never have a problem when we have gone so maybe give it another try~ :)

Went to Cogan's and the service was terrible!! To top it all off this blond brought her baby in with her and continued to drink and smoke while she was working. That place is sick.

Went with a few friends for the beer selection. When we got there the selection was great, but the keg beer was all room temperature. Our waitress was obviously in a bad mood that day, it seemed like we where torturing her every time we flagged her down (which we had to do the first time after a 15 minute wait to place our first order, then had to get up and search for her after that). The pizza wasn't bad, but it took over an hour to get it after we ordered (we had to flag her down and ask about it). It may have just been a bad night for them, but it was not a desirable experience. Warm beer, slow service, and an uninviting staff. I will stick to Tap House and Cruzers when I am in Norfolk.

i've been there to eat quite a few times. its one of my favorite places to go. the pizza there is the best in norfolk without question. they have the best beer selection i've probably ever seen. i like the quaint atmosphere. the only complaint is that the service is a little slow. the waitress i had was having a hard time multi tasking..but the beer selection and the awesome pizza makes up for the small bump in the service. overall its a great place to go have a few beers and enjoy the best pizza in norfolk.

Beer selection is great and in general food is good. Last time we were there our pizza order somehow did not make it to the kitchen and we sat for awhile than upon asking realized that our pizza had never been cooked. Kitchen blamed it on not getting a ticket - server was apologetic but no offer to "make things right" was made.

Cogans has some of the best pizza - hand tossed. The Sunday $5.00 pizzas is a really great deal. 33 beers on tap what a fun place - love the tatoos.

My co-workers and I go to Cogan's for lunch every Monday afternoon. This may sound boring, but we always have the same thing (their lunch buffet). We always have the same server. She always knows exactly what we want without us having to order. She never lets our drinks empty, and she always, even when extremely busy, has a moment to chat with us. So if you ever don't know where to go for lunch, try Cogan's Pizza. Especially on Mondays when you will get the best service around.

We used to love Cogan's until we decided to have deliver to our home. The older man that delivered our pizza through my 2 dollar tip back in my face. He explained that my 2 bucks was an insult. We haven't been back since.

I used to love this place but recently it seems like it has gone way downhill. I have had several friend say the same thing, but thought they were just being fussy. But, based on my most recent visit I have to agree with them. The cigrette smoke late at night is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Last visit my pizza slice was cold. The waiter was very nice but so busy we could not get even passable service. When our pizzas came, our glasses were empty and it took 15 min to get refills...pizza with no beverage to wash it down is not a great dining experience. I wrote one of the positive earlier reviews, but not sure I'll be going back again. Did I say the cigarette smoke really sucked?

I was in town recently for a couple of minor league hockey games. Both nights I had a pizza at Cogan's and found it wonderful. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The selection of 33 beers was good and the four or five I sampled all tasted fresh. The decor is wild, seems like it would fit right into Greenwich Village in NYC, but that just adds to the atmosphere. Worth a visit.

Cogan's has about 30 taps and at least the same number of bottled beers, with lots of great microbrews as well as some Belgian and German ales. Dogfish Head, Dominion Brewing, St. George, Stone Brewing, Rogue, Chimay, Weinstephan, Aventinus, etc. The pizza is fantastic, NY style, great crust courtesy of the Baker's Pride pizza oven. The fried calamari is fantastic and a popular topping to the Caesar and mediterranean salads. Atmosphere is cool but casual, building has many antique-eclectic fixtures, and there is an antique toy collection. It can get somewhat smoky as they unfortunately allow smoking at the bar anytime and in the evening they allow it at the tables...it's one big room. The outdoor patio is a good refuge. Still, Cogan's is a favorite among locals and really popular. One of my absolute favorite places to go! I highly recommend the pizza!

Cogans is a fantastic place. I live nearby, and it is one of my favorite place to eat out these days, due to the very good beer selection and the fantastic pizza. They also have a fun and eclectic atmosphere and a nice covered outdoor patio. Older reviews on other sites may be inaccurate, as the old Cogans (a Norfolk institution, and I mean that literally!)run by Carl and Alan Cogan)was bought by new owners a year or two ago, who have created a wonderful local restaurant in what had been a basically a locals bar with live bands. The new place I believe is just called Cogans or Cogan's Pizza. There is a neat antique toy collection, artwork, ancient bar and pressed tin ceiling left from the original Cogan's, a cool draft dispenser, and a small game room in the back with air hockey and pin ball. On tap currently they have good stuff like Dogfish Head (60 or 90 minute), Weinstephan Hefe, St George Porter, Hoegarden, Rogue Dead Guy, Rogue Shakespeare Stout and the Rogue Imperial, Allagash White, Dominion Summer Wheat, and more. Bottled beers include a Chimay, Aventinus, Delerium Tremens or Nocturn, Flying Dog, and more. Thinking about it, I changed my initial 'great' beer rating to 'awesome'....the beer selection isn't quite as extensive as the Biergarden (tops in area) or the Taphouse in Ghent (second best), but takes a strong third place. The service at Cogans is always very friendly and personable. A real locals' place. The kitchen can be efficient...in other words, ask the server to hold off putting the entree/pizza order in until you've gotten at least part way through your appetizer/salads. I really can't comment on most of the food on the menu, like the pasta or sandwiches. This is because the pizza is so good it is all I ever order. Definitely one of the very best pizzas in the area. They have the Bakers Pride oven, which gives a classic New York/New Jersey style crust. They have lots of toppings to choose from, the regular stuff to things like goat cheese, feta cheese, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, anchovies, pineapple. You can get an oversized slice or a whole pie. I usually get a Greek salad or a caesar salad, and you can get calamari on top of any salad. The calamari is great. I love this place!! It is in Ghent, and about a 5-6 minute walk to the Naro Theater and the Taphouse (in case you want to do a pub crawl. It is a 20-25 minute walk from downtown, or a $5 taxi ride. They allow smoking at the bar up till (I think) 8 or 9 pm, after that they allow it at tables. Of course since it is all one room, the smoke travels, but a lot of times it isn't too bad. The patio give an outdoor option in nicer weather.

With 33 beers on tap, from blue collar premiums to belgian ales, this is a cool place to kill pints of hours. They have a large selection of craft beer in bottles and the legendary Dale's Pale Ale and Old Chub in the CAN....man. The pizza kicks ass. I like the happy hour prices in the afternoon. The place fills with critters at night. Always open till 2am is a nice last call bonus. College vibe, neighborhood folks, overall....you should go.

VERY cool Golden Age Sci-Fi illos accentuate the gorilla-as-friendly-monster semi-theme of Cogan's...but that doesn't do it justice. How about the Space Age Draft Dispense System? That's a curved stainless back bar with an arc of taps that have Christmas lights on them and a semi-naked alien babe exhorting you to try them (actually, I guess she's all nekkid, but the green-skinned naughty bits are obscured). If this sounds crazy, it is, but if you've ever been to the Northeast Taproom in Reading, PA, or Lynn's Paradise Cafe, in Louisville, KY, you'll know exactly what kind of place Cogan's is. I'd have loved to close the place, but we had to go after only one. Great selection, BTW, including Aventinus on draft IN the proper Aventinus glass!
